   Brakes

A vehicle’s braking system is its single most important safety feature, and cannot be taken for granted. Worn or out-of-adjustment brake parts will increase stopping distances, thereby compromising safety. Whether you have anti-lock brakes or not,  you have to trust that your brakes are up to the task! Our mechanics will visually inspect the brakes and let you know of the need for brake repairs. Additionally, you should be alert to signs such as the following:

  • You sense that the car is taking longer to come to a stop

  • Your car feels like it’s pulling to the left or right when you brake

  • You feel vibration in the steering wheel when you apply the brakes

  • You hear a high-pitched squeal (indicating worn brake calipers, drums or rotors)

  • You hear a grinding sound when you apply the brakes (indicating severe damage to brake pads or brake shoes)

  • You have to push your brake pedal to the floor when you brake (indicating a leak in the brake system or problems with the brake cylinder

       Auto Maintenance

Missed auto maintenance can cause your vehicle to waste fuel, increase hydrocarbon and catalytic converters and oxygen sensors. While modern vehicles’ onboard computers have made seasonal tune-ups unnecessary, there are still some regular inspections and adjustments that should be made to ensure that your car’s electronics are properly integrating the workings of your vehicle’s fuel, ignition and emissions systems.

We will assess whether your vehicle is in need of service. If necessary, we will:

  • Replace spark plugs

  • Check emission levels

  • Perform a full maintenance inspection of all major systems including:

    • Brakes

    • Steering system

    • Tires and shock absorbers

    • Cooling system

    • Belts

    • Filters

    • Fluid levels

    • And much more

       Heating & Air

Your car’s heating system circulates the heat generated by the engine. Hot engine coolant fluid passes through a second, smaller radiator (sometimes referred to as a heater core); a fan blows cold air from outside over the radiator, warming the air and then sending it through the vents in the passenger cabin. The heater core is subject to the same build-up of rust and other debris that can clog your radiator, and should be cleaned so air and coolant can move freely through the system. If you smell coolant fluid in the hot air coming through the vents or if you find steam fogging your windows, bring your vehicle in to check for leaks and corrosion.

Your car’s AC needs to be recharged just as your home’s air conditioner does, to make sure it cools your vehicle efficiently. If you find that the system needs to be recharged more often than usual, make sure to mention it to your  mechanic. Leaks in the air conditioning system can be hard to spot without professional diagnostic equipment.
